From the month of June 2008, the Treasury Department will begin sending checks popularly called as Government rebate checks to more than 130 million American citizens. To qualify for the tax rebate the American citizens will not have to do anything special other than filing their 2007 individual income tax return to receive their payment. There is no requirement of completing applications or file any extra forms or call the Internal Revenue Service to request the payment. People, who have already filed their individual tax returns with direct deposit, need not do anything else to receive the tax rebate checks. The Internal Revenue Service will use the 2007 tax return to determine the eligibility and it would calculate the basic amount of the payment.

A maximum amount of $600 for individuals ($1,200 for individuals who file a joint return) and a minimum of $300 for individuals ($600 for individuals who file a joint return) would be paid back to them as tax rebate.

As per the latest policy of the U.S. Government, taxpayers would get checks of several hundred dollars as rebates from the federal government under a plan to revamp the economy back on the track. Millions of the American citizens will have a check in the mail, from the coming May 2008 as a result of the ‘Government Rebate Policy’. The lawmakers feel that the proposed action by the government would strengthen the middle class, create more jobs and it will help to a certain extent for turning this economy around. As per the Treasury Department of U.S., the plan would send Government rebate checks of $600 to individuals and $1,200 to couples who paid income tax and who filed their tax returns jointly.

 It has been already confirmed by the Treasury Department that by the end of the May or the beginning of the June, the tax rebate checks would start flowing in the mail boxes of the US citizens. Government rebate checks are for those people who pay their taxes or earn at least $3,000 per annum that includes the payment received by them through Social Security or veterans’ disability benefit funds. There is a provision available for the payment of partial rebate for the singles with income of more than $75,000 and couples with more than $150,000 per annum. People who do not file the tax return or earn less than $3,000 or singles who earn more than $87,000 or couples earning more than $174,000 are not eligible to get the rebate checks.
